In a world where plain talking seems as unlikely as Katy Perry moving femalekind forward by flying into space donning a bodycon jumpsuit. We thought we could answer some of our most asked questions as simply as possible.
Are red marks normal?
Yes. The chest band should place even pressure on the body, reducing pressure on the shoulders. This in turn will give you marks around the rib cage and under the breast tissue. This pressure should feel reassuring and comfortable; it should not dig in.
Can I wear my bra 24/7?
This is entirely personal preference. Many women feel the need to ditch their bra as soon as they get in the door. Others, will wear the same bra until bedtime; there is no right or wrong. Think of your bra like shoes; different shoes for different activities. When you come home you might want to put your slippers on?
Why do my bra straps fall off my shoulders?
Physically we are all so diverse. The shape of our shoulders is a prime example. Shoulders can be broad, rounded or sloped. Those of us with sloped shoulders have more of a tendency to loose straps during the day and find ourselves 'hoiking' them back into place. Not only do we carry our breasts and bags on these appendages but also the weight of the world. Tension, ill fitting bras and weighty shoulder bags all aid the overdevelopment of the upper neck muscles, resulting in exagerated slopes. We can provide additional straps to stop the movement but it might be worth rethinking our habits? Making small lifestyle changes to reduce stress and 'baggage' might be a better course of action?
How often should I wash my bra?
Bras do not need to washed after every wear. The ususal recommendation is to wash after 3-4 wears. Bras require minimum washing, they simply need a refresh to remove skin cells from their surface. If you are struggling to find time to hand wash, simply wear your bra in the shower. Let the water and soap run over the fabric then take the bra off and rinse the inside. Pat the bra with a towel and then hang to dry.
What is the lifespan of a bra?
In 20yrs of business, we have seen it all; a three month old bra that looks like it has been dug up from Pompeii and a ten year old bra that looks box fresh. How we treat our bras directly influences how long they last. A bra that has been hand washed, stored flat and worn with consideration will last years. Machine washing at 30C plus will erode the elastine, forcing the bra into an already crammed drawer will damage the wires and hurriedly putting your bra on without considering the hooks and eyes or straps will put undue pressure on these elements. We suggest that our bras will last a couple of years.
How many bras do I need?
Your lifestyle will dictate how many bras you need. We all own far more than required and repeatedly only wear two or three on rotation. It is always prudent to buy less, wear them more and replace as required. Lifestyle changes, hormones, age and health all have an impact on size and style of bra that we need. It is disappointing to discover that we no longer fit into five perfect bras that have been forgotten at the back of the drawer.
